REM visits the Audiovisual Council of Azerbaijan
A delegation of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media visited Azerbaijan over the past week, where it met with representatives of the Audiovisual Council of Azerbaijan, with whom it discussed modalities for future cooperation between the two regulators.
During her visit to colleagues from the Azerbaijani regulatory authority , the President of the Council, Ms Olivera Zekić, expressed her gratitude for their hospitality and stressed the need for cooperation between the two regulators in terms of exchanging experience and knowledge in the field of media market regulation.
The Chairman of the Audiovisual Council, Mr Ismat Sattarov, familiarised the REM delegation with the media reforms introduced in Azerbaijan in the past few years, the adoption of a new legal framework and the state of the media landscape.
The REM delegation met with representatives of the Media Development Agency, whose role is to strengthen the economic independence of media entities, increase professionalism and accountability of journalists, as well as raise awareness about media literacy in society.
In addition, the delegation had an opportunity to visit the public service broadcaster and several commercial televisions, thus gaining a better insight into the state of the media landscape in Azerbaijan.
