Over 1,500 children from Belgrade, Novi Sad, and Subotica visited media within Media Literacy Open Days

Over 1,500 preschoolers from Belgrade, Novi Sad, and Subotica participated in visits to media within the Media with Wide Open Doors campaign, which is part of the third Media Literacy Open Days.

The Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media organised, from 14 to 18 October, Media Literacy Open Days, as part of which a programme aimed at raising awareness about media literacy among the youngest was organised specially for preschool institutions from the territory of Belgrade, Novi Sad, and Subotica, in cooperation with public service broadcasters, media service providers, and PE Transmitters and Communications.

The Media with Wide Open Doors campaign was joined by Radio Television of Serbia, Radio Television of Vojvodina, Prva TV, Naxi Radio, and TV Panon, and by representatives of the PE Transmitters and Communications. Each of the aforementioned partner organisations created a programme tailored to preschool-age children, aimed at familiarising children with media, how they function and work.

In these five days, the youngest had an opportunity to: find out about the various media occupations, how the programme is produced, news is created, the programme is edited, how the hosts prepare for programmes, see the makeup and dressing rooms, learn what a music studio is. Most interesting of all was certainly interacting with radio and TV hosts, directly tuning into programmes of media service providers, some even tried their hand at the role of radio and television host, issued statements and gained knowledge that will help them to understand the world around them more easily.

A special programme was organised by representatives of PE Transmitters and Communications, who organised a tour of the observation deck on the 122-meter-high Avala Tower, followed by a visit to the Museum of Transmission Technology, and interacting with members of the Banjica Radio Club, with whom they played the "fox hunt" game, that is, with their eyes closed, the children sought the signal with the help of an antenna and a special device in the beautiful surroundings of the Avala Tower.

This event, organised by the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media for the third consecutive year, is a product of fruitful cooperation with the Council of Europe, which helped to organise it the previous two times. In addition, the Regulator developed, in cooperation with the Council of Europe, a number of materials suitable for working with preschoolers on this topic, and conducted an extensive survey

Since the beginning of this year, the Regulator has held trainings for teachers and expert associates of preschool institutions in Novi Sad, Niš, Kraljevo, Čačak, and Subotica, which were attended by over 200 teachers and expert associates from Serbia.
