Preschoolers from Belgrade enjoyed visit to Avala as part of programme within Media Literacy Open Days

Representatives of the Public Enterprise Transmitters and Communications organised a visit programme for preschoolers from Belgrade as part of the third consecutive Media Literacy Open Days.

According to the organisers, who participated in the Media with Wide Open Doors campaign, 350 preschoolers have participated in the visit programme so far, and by the end of the event, over 700 little ones are expected to enjoy the programme intended for them at Avala, the goal of which is to improve media literacy among preschool age children.

As part of the visit programme, the little ones had an opportunity to visit the observation deck on the 122-meter-high Avala Tower, where they enjoyed a beautiful panoramic view of Belgrade and the surrounding area. They then visited the Museum of Transmission Technology, where they saw old cameras, record players, TVs and reel-to-reel tape recorders. Representatives of the PE Transmitters and Communications told the children interesting stories about how these devices were used in the past and how everything functions today.

A particularly interesting activity was the participation in the "fox hunt" game with members of the Banjica Radio Club. Using an antenna and a special device, with their eyes closed, the children sought the signal and so tried out this fun and instructive game.

In the open space around the Avala Tower, the little ones took part in physical activities through an analogue-digital outdoor game, which further entertained the children and encouraged their creativity and interaction.

In parallel with these visits, other groups of preschoolers visited the studios of Radio Television of Serbia, Naxi Radio, Prva TV and TV Panon, which "opened their doors" as part of the same campaign.

This event, organised by the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media for the third consecutive year, is a product of fruitful cooperation with the Council of Europe, which helped to organise it the previous two times. In addition, the Regulator developed, in cooperation with the Council of Europe, a number of materials suitable for working with preschoolers on this topic, and conducted an extensive survey.

Since the beginning of this year, the Regulator has held trainings for teachers and expert associates of preschool institutions in Novi Sad, Niš, Kraljevo, Čačak, and Subotica, which were attended by over 200 teachers and expert associates from Serbia.
