Lecture on ethical and professional standards in reporting on human trafficking

When reporting on human trafficking, it is necessary to respect the dignity of victims and refrain from sensationalist headlines, according to the conclusions of the lecture held on 15 November and organised by the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media in cooperation with the Centre for the Protection of Victims of Human Trafficking.

The lecture on advancing ethical and professional standards in reporting on human trafficking and protecting the privacy of victims’ identities, attended by journalists from across Serbia, is part of continuous activity of advancing ethical and professional standards on this topic, as part of the Action Plan of the Ministry of the Interior for combating human trafficking.

Miroslav Jovanović from the Centre for the Protection of Victims of Human Trafficking stressed the special importance of taking care not to publish details that are not of importance to the public but may be harmful to the victim in terms of their data privacy.

The Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media will work further within its competences on activities set out in the Action Plan for the Implementation of the Programme for Combating Human Trafficking in the Republic of Serbia.
